The power of one person

... and that one person is YOU!

Now is the time to show your true Being as a leader and human. Now is the time to lead from the heart and soul. There are moments when we lead from behind, there are moments when we lead being in the front and most importantly we can also lead through co-creation and collaboration with each other. Co-creative and collaborative leadership is the future. Now is the time to embrace the challenges of fear and face them head on. Now is the time to sit in stillness and breath and know that there is a day when the light will shine stronger and stronger again. Make it that day NOW.

There is no future and there is no past. There is only NOW. The choice is yours. How do you want to show up as a leader now? Not yesterday and not tomorrow but simply NOW.

We are currently going through an unprecedented global experience with the Corona Virus, at least in our life time. Some of us have already had similar experiences through war, job losses or when we faced a terminal illness. Many of those have come out the other end stronger, more aware and less fearful. We faced the saber tooth tiger and we survived.

On a smaller scale we face that tiger regularly without even knowing. Our amygdala is programmed to turn on the red danger lights and the sirens go off in our brain every time we believe we are facing danger, even when there is no saber tooth tiger in front of us. We have all gone through challenging experiences in our lives that represent that saber tooth tiger and it is all stored in our body, mind and soul. Every experience that triggers that memory puts us into survival mode. Our brain and body wants to protect us from the danger, even though it is not real. It is just a memory. Yet, we have tools like meditation, mindfulness and much more that can assist us in staying present or becoming an observer in the moment. We learn to respond rather than to act and react. This is a process that we can learn. Practice makes perfect.

My origins are in Bosnia so I had a close encounter with the war in Bosnia and Croatia, where I also spent a semester as an exchange student during the war. Many people had lost their homes, loved ones and their familiar lives. Yet in cities that were not on the front lines life seemed to continue as normal as it could be.

Those really affected by the war had to start from scratch. Parents didn't know whether their sons would come home from the front line. Wives didn't know if they would turn into widows over night. Children did not know if they would see their fathers again. Soldiers didn't know if there house was still going to be standing upon their return or if they would return home at all. This applies to all wars. The sirens could go off any time of the day and people would seek shelter and so much more. People were gripped with fear and facing the unknown. Yet that fear started to subside. In some way it was part of life and you forgot about it until the sirens would go off again and a bomb would hit a home.

If you were lucky you had relatives abroad where you could stay until you worked out what to do with your life now. Refugees found shelter and new homes in different countries. Over the past years Syrian refugees spread throughout the world with the same or similar experiences of fear and facing the unknown, having lost everything in their lives.

There are some of us on this planet who have been through the corona virus already, it was just called something else, like war for example. Yet if you look at Croatia and parts of Bosnia now they are thriving like they never did during the communism. What has changed though is that oddly the richer people became the more they isolated themselves and the less community was present. It almost seems that poverty brings people together and richness divides. When we didn't have much we didn't fear losing much. We shared the little that we had. Now that we have more we fear losing what we own. We remember that it was also tough when we didn't have much because we did have to work hard to have something and we don't want to go back there. But we don't seem to remember how close we were with people and we no longer are. Yet as we look at earth quakes or erupting volcanoes everything can be destroyed in an instant and we as humans have no control over it.

What we cannot destroy is our Beingness, the true divine being that we are. We cannot destroy our Humanness because that is innate to us. This has been passed on for generations. When we look back at our ancestors they had to survive many many threats. And guess what? Those survival skills are continuously being passed on through our genes. We as a human species have learned to survive in difficult conditions. What some of us have forgotten is how to be human, how to be divine, how to be compassionate and how to be kind. But it is all there, underneath all the layers of painful experiences in our lives that lead us to protect our, body, mind, heart and soul from being hurt again. We are now seeing people stepping up again in being human and assisting each other as much as they can.

The corona virus is giving us the opportunity to take stock. Where are we in our lives? How far have we come in our career? Are we living our purpose or are we just generating money to survive and believe thrive but we are really seeking a plaster to the deeper wounds that we are trying to hide?

Some of us have gone through job losses and the fear of not being able to provide for our families and maybe feeling worthless. Some of us have faced terminal illness and the fear of leaving this life and our families behind. We overcame the fears, we found jobs again or started our own business, we healed and sometimes we returned to the home where our souls have come from. A cycle of death and re-birth. An opportunity to face our fears and understand the superpowers that we as humans have. Acknowledge our divine Beingness and humanness. Become aware of our superpowers, our big hearts, our loving kindness and our willingness to support each other.

Videos on social media show people sitting on balconies giving concerts, singing with each other and connecting. We are creative and will always be because we are born with a creative energy and we will always be connected.

How can you as a leader step up now, inspire, connect, be creative and assist and support your family, your community, your colleagues, your employees and humanity? How can you be that pillar of light, standing strong when everything and everyone else around you seems to collapse? How can you shine and bring your light into the darkness that the world is currently facing? The world needs your skills NOW! Take a step! Give it a shot and BE a leader NOW :)
